Find peace and solitude in a remote Mountain lodge in the heart of the high Atlas Mountains. The  bedrooms of gīte d’ėtape is labyrinthine building in a shady rock-built in house nesting amongst cherries, apple and walnut orchards.  There are so many options to keep guests entertained on site or for a luxurious afternoon of pampering, and the numerous alcoves and cushioned salon are perfect for curling up in with a good book.  Freshly cooked meals- thin crisp salads and tasty homemade tagines – can be brought to you wherever you wish, whether that’s a bath or secluded corner on the terrace with a view of the mighty Toubkal summit.

If you fancy activities with a bit more pep , the nearby foothills of the High Atlas mountains are perfect for an active day trip , and the souks are just an hour away.

High Atlas mountain Lodge:

Not far away from Marrakech, the High Atlas Mountains of Toubkal is the ultimate escape away from the busy markets. Overlooking the rooftop of North Africa, clinging on the mountainsides lies a peaceful haven where you can spend some time in tranquil surroundings. Whether you like to just relax or discover Morocco’s biggest mountain range, you are certain to stay at a very comfortable Atlas Mountain Lodge.

Erected off a rocky outcrop dominating apricot, fig, cherry and apple orchards on the edge of Aremd village, our Atlas Mountain Lodge is the village’s unique exclusive holiday rental home. Home to a local Berber family this delightful stone-built retreat has a second to none location. South- west facing, the sunny top terrace offers a panoramic views of magnificent peaks with the summit of Jebel Toubkal rising majestically ahead.

Accommodation

Lodge (Sleeps 9+, 4 en suite bedrooms)

Inside the lodge we have 3 cosy double en-suite bedrooms plus 1 larger suite with 3 single beds (or double plus single), each with views out to Mount Toubkal. Additional beds can be added for larger groups.

Each tiled bathroom is a ‘wet room’ equipped with a small washbasin, loo/ bathroom, shower, mirror, shaving light and hairdryer.

Although lodge rental is on a fully serviced/full board basis, the kitchen, fridge, freezer facilities are available for guest use.

Our large salon/dining room is a perfect spot in which to unwind, with views out over the village and Jebel Toubkal. Traditional Berber-style sofas surround the walls, complete with numerous cushions, tables and stools.

For in-house entertainment there is a TV, DVD player and iPod dock/CD player. Should you need to communicate with the outside world, the lodge has wired and wi-fi internet connection.

Bed linen and towels are provided. The lodge has a cleaner and cook.

Accessibility

The lodge is not accessible or equipped for wheelchair users or people with mobility issues. Please contact us for more light on this subject.

Outside

Life in the Atlas Mountains follows the seasons but wherever possible embraces the marvellous natural surroundings of the mountains. In front of the bedrooms and above the salon of the lodge, a large terrace is shaded by walnut trees and offers truly breathtaking views over cherry, apricot and apple orchards, Aremd village and directly out to North Africa’s highest peak – Jebel Toubkal.

Coast/Beach holidays extensions

Essaouira is 200 km from Aremd, a drive of between 3-4 hours making a perfect 3-centre holiday when combined with Marrakech and the High Atlas.

Skiing

Morocco’s finest ski resort is accessbile from Aremd and Imlil by 4×4 and it boasts almost 12.5 miles of runs and loads of off-piste options. The surrounding scenery is awe-inspiring and Oukaimeden is a welcome change from the average European ski resort. The resort has been popular with wealthy Moroccans for many years and it has developed into one of the country’s classiest winter destinations. Oukaimeden presents a selection of 20 trails for various levels of ability, but the ski resort’s most outstanding attraction is the access it provides to countless untracked trails that wind through the High Atlas mountain range. The slopes are served by seven chairlifts including the continent’s highest at an altitude of 10,734 feet.

Travel

The Atlas Mountain settlement of Imlil lies some 65 km from Marrakech and 18 km from Asni. After 47 km from Marrakech the road narrows considerably after the turn-off from the market town of Asni, winding for a further 18 km up into the village. The surfaced road into the Atlas ends here. Imlil can be reached by private vehicle with driver (either car, 4×4 or minibus) in 1 hour 20 minutes from Marrakech Menara airport or city centre.

Distances

Village shop is 300 metres from the lodge. Marrakech 65 km. Jebel Toubkal can be conquered in as little as 2 days from the lodge with an overnight at Neltner en route.

Further details

Once in Imlil travel is on foot, by 4×4 or possibly by mule for those who need assistance. The Berber hamlet of Aremd lies just a few km further up the valley, the closest village to Mount Toubkal. Reaching Aremd involves either a 45 minute walk from Imlil or a 15 minute drive on a rough track which zigzags up above Imlil further into the Ait Mizane Valley.

Rental prices include exclusive private rental of Atlas Mountain Lodge, traditional Moroccan/Berber breakfast/lunch/dinners, bed linen, towels, services of housekeeper, services of English-speaking local manager, internet access and open-fires in winter months.

A private transfer by minibus between Marrakech/Imlil is £70/ 90$ each way (1-12 people) plus 45 minute walk. Mules transport luggage (80 dirhams each mule, paid locally). Alternatively, a private transfer by 4×4 between Marrakech/Aremd is £85/ 150$ each way (1-5 people) plus 10 minute walk. Mules transport luggage (50 dirhams each mule).

Notes on prices

Base prices quoted are for renting Atlas Mountain Lodge on an exclusive private rental basis. For all seasons add £15/ 25$ per person per night to base price. This covers housekeeping, all meals prepared by our local chef (including breakfasts, picnic lunches on day walks or lunch in the lodge, plus dinners), mineral water and unlimited mint tea/coffee, local pancakes and biscuits).

Changeover day

Changeover days are flexible. Atlas Mountain Lodge is available from 1600 on the day of arrival and must be vacated by 11. 00 on the day of departure, though this is also flexible.
